Sensex and Nifty extended gains in afternoon trade on Thursday, supported by sustained buying in IT stocks and strength in consumer durables and broader markets. IT stocks continued to outperform by a wide margin, while consumer durables, auto and realty shares also traded higher. Midcaps and smallcaps outperformed the benchmarks, while India VIX declined more than 5 percent.
