Cook County officials announced on Friday, Nov. 7, that 1.8 million second installment property tax bills for Tax Year 2024 are expected to be mailed to property owners on Nov.ember 14, 2025, with a due date of Dec. 15.
The overhaul of the technological backbone of the Cook County property tax system has had an impact on the County’s property tax processes and timelines.
In anticipation of the tax bills being delayed, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, who has no statutory role in the administration of the tax bills, initiated a Bridge Loan Program to provide hundreds of millions of dollars in no interest loans to local taxing jurisdictions (LTJs) across Cook County.
The Bridge Loan Program was developed to offset fiscal challenges that local taxing districts may have experienced due to the delay of the tax bills and offered local governments a lower cost borrowing option.
Qualifying taxing bodies such as municipalities, park districts, schools, etc. were able to apply for short-term loans. In total, nearly 20 local governments will receive more than $20 million from this program.
