Mosman residents warn Defence against luxury land sale

Mosman residents say they must be consulted over the future of the HMAS Penguin naval base, as Defence Minister Richard Marles prepares to reveal which properties in the department’s $34 billion real estate portfolio will be sold.

Marles commissioned an audit in August 2023 of Defence’s sprawling property portfolio – which includes 2.8 million hectares of land in Australia, 70 major bases, 28 airfields, 72 training areas and 61 wharves – to determine which assets it no longer needed.
