1 civilian killed, multiple firefighters injured after commercial-grade fireworks explode during brushfire in Lenoir County :: WRAL.com

La Grange, N.C. — A civilian was killed and multiple firefighters were injured injured Friday during a response to a brush fire in La Grange.
Authorities said at approximately 3:15 p.m. Friday afternoon, La Grange Volunteer Fire Department, North Lenoir Fire & Rescue, and the North Carolina Forest Service were dispatched to 4871 Bulltown Road in La Grange, NC for a reported brush fire approaching a structure.
Crews were alerted by the Lenoir County 911 Center that the structure contained commercial-grade fireworks.
Shortly after arrival, authorities said fireworks detonated causing several injuries and damage to fire department equipment.
Three firefighters were transported to ECU Health Trauma Center in Greenville, NC to be treated for their injuries – one patient by Eastcare Helicopter and two patients by Lenoir County Emergency Services ambulance. One La Grange Volunteer Fire Department Firefighter is in critical condition.
In addition, one civilian who represented the property was also critically injured during the explosion and transported from the scene. In a press conference Friday night it was confirmed they had died.
Multiple Lenoir County and Wayne County fire departments were on scene.
Local fire departments across the area showed their support for those involved in the explosion.
The fire is under control, crews continued working into the evening to fully extinguish hotspots.
