LYNN — Police are investigating after a car crashed into a restaurant on Commercial Street Thursday.
Lynn police spokesperson Lt. Richard Connick said the incident occurred at around 5:30 a.m. when a vehicle, operated by an 18-year-old male from Lynn, struck two parked cars on Commercial Street — including an SUV that was pushed into Pollo Royal restaurant at 115 Commercial St., causing damage.
The SUV was removed Thursday morning as the damage was assessed and crews began to board up the damage to the front of the building and inside the restaurant’s seating area. The restaurant’s sign was also knocked down during the incident.
Rudis Ortez, owner of Pollo Royal, said he was notified of the crash soon after it occurred. He said he was still working with the insurance company to figure out the cost of the damage, but estimated repair costs would be high.
“It’s not cheap,” Ortez said. “There’s big damage.”
Ortez said the restaurant will be closed until the city’s building and health departments give it the go-ahead to reopen.
Connick said no charges have been filed and no injuries were reported.
