DTA has issues with new consultancy probe legislation

Proposed legislation to create a new parliamentary committee to review APS contracts awarded to firms classed as consultancies is under fire for its unclear scope.

In its submission, the Digital Transformation Agency warns that vague wording could draw in everything from cloud and software providers to major systems integrators.

The warning from the DTA centres around the Public Consultancy and Services Contract Bill 2025, which follows committee reviews prompted by the infamous PwC scandal. That matter saw the consultancy play both sides of the fence, advising companies on a tax office crackdown on multinational tax avoidance after having advised the ATO to conduct that crackdown.
