Crazy House Prices’ Ciaran Mulqueen Cites Infuriating Dublin Rental As He Slams Government
Ciaran Mulqueen of Crazy House Prices has slammed a standing ovation for outgoing Taoiseach Micheal Martin as he cited the state of the Dublin rental market.
A property in Dublin advertising four beds in a single room for €475 each has triggered a strong reaction online.
Incredibly, the room in a house on the South Circular Road in Dublin 8 was later withdrawn after it appeared it had been rented out.
The accommodation was featured on the crazyhouseprices Instagram page run by Ciaran Mulqueen who also hosts The Crazy House Price Podcast and has written a book on the subject.
Alongside the post he wrote: ‘Lots of rounds of applause in the Dáil this morning for how wonderful the Government have done. Fair play to them.
‘Meanwhile, here’s a bed to rent in a room with 3 others for €425/month plus €50/month bills. So €475/month to sleep beside strangers every night.’
In his stories, it looked as if the property had since been removed although it wasn’t clear if it was because it had been rented out or simply withdrawn.
Not surprisingly, the suggestion a landlord would be pocketing €1,900 in rent each month for a single room triggered a strong reaction online.
A follower of the page suggested the house was in fact a four-bedroom property raising the potential for taking in several thousand in rent.
One follower asked: ‘Like where do you put your stuff? How would you not be bumping into each other getting ready for work in the morning? How do you sleep – people in and out of the room all the time?? Where is privacy?!!!’
While another wrote: ‘Wanna know what worries me? When there is a fire and due to overcrowding someone or many may be unable to get out and unfortunately lose their lives. Then the government will do something! Then they will act!’
While another responded: ‘It’s shocking isn’t it. Profiting from people’s desperation. Pure and utter greed’.
