Canada to launch new agency to fight financial crime

TORONTO, Oct 20 (Reuters) – Canadian Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne on Monday announced the creation of a new financial crime agency to combat fraud, tackle money laundering and recover criminal proceeds.

Canada is preparing for an audit by Paris-based global financial crime watchdog Financial Action Task Force in November, which will include an assessment of the country’s systems in place to reduce financial crime.
