East Suffolk has been chosen among 27 locations in England to benefit from Sport England’s investment.

This initiative aims to tackle inequalities in activity levels.

Active Suffolk has received a portion of the funding to promote physical activity among the communities in need.

The investment is part of Sport England’s nationwide effort to combat inactivity and social disparities by making sport and movement accessible to all.

Sport England’s research suggests that active lifestyles save the healthcare system £8billion annually by preventing over 3.3million chronic health conditions.

This includes 1.3m cases of depression, 900,000 cases of back pain, and 700,000 cases of type 2 diabetes.

Oliver Ambrose, development officer (place) for East Suffolk at Active Suffolk, said: “This is a significant opportunity for East Suffolk, and I’m really proud to be supporting work that places our local people at its heart.

“By listening to the experiences and ambitions of our communities, we can help to shape environments that make it easier for everyone to be active and improve their health.”
