Land is sold to make way for 17 new homes in ‘most sought-after’ Leicestershire village
Land that will make way for 17 new homes on the edge of one of Leicestershire’s ‘most sought-after’ villages has been sold. It’s as efforts to meet housing demand in the area increase.
Known as Hanbury Gardens, the new development will stand on land at the edge of Church Langton, near Market Harborough. Planning permission for the 1.81 hectare site was granted back in 2019, with progress on the development now a step closer.
That’s after the land, off Church Causeway, was sold at the end of last month to Langton Homes. It’s a deal that those involved say will meet demand for what is a highly popular area.

Comprising 17 homes, Hanbury Gardens will be a mix of three, four and five-bed homes. Eleven of the properties will be private, while the remaining six will be designated as ‘affordable’ homes.
Described as a “high-quality modern development”, the proposal has been approved to help meet demand for housing in the area. Previously, the Harborough District Council Local Plan made clear that both East Langton and Church Langton are expected to deliver 30 new homes by 2031.
The sale of the Hanbury Gardens land was completed in May. It was a deal that was handled by Newton LDP, who believe it will add greatly to the area.
Richard Foxon, managing director of Newton LDP Ltd, said: “This is a site I know well and have been involved in for some time. We are pleased to have negotiated the sale of the land with planning permission for an attractive and sustainable development, which will provide much-needed new homes in this popular part of Leicestershire.”
The site has been bought by Rutland-based Langton Homes, which said Church Langton was a highly sought-after area. Their director Ben Cripps added: “We are thrilled to be acquiring this land, which will help to meet the council’s requirements for new housing in this area. Church Langton is one of the most sought-after villages in Leicestershire, with strong transport links to Market Harborough which is just a short drive away.”
Ground work on Hanbury Gardens has already started. Langton Homes say they believe the site will be completed by summer 2023.
