Bangor residential property handed closure notice by police

On Monday (November 10), officers from Bangor’s Neighbourhood Policing Team imposed a closure notice on a residential property in Hirael, Bangor.

This is following a significant number of complaints made by residents about the use and supply of drugs at the property.

The closure notice was in effect for a period of 48 hours, allowing officers enough time to attend Magistrates’ Court to request an extension to prohibit entry into the property by everyone bar the homeowner for an extended period of three months.

This has now been extended, police said, and the closire notice will be enforced for a period of three months.

A North Wales Police spokesperson added: “Should Police Officers discover persons within the property during periodic routine-checks, then they can be imprisoned for six months, or face a £5000.00 fine – or both.

“North Wales Police hope that this extended three-month period will give the homeowner enough time to engage with substance misuse support and counselling services and change their old habits once and for all.

“We also hope that the once quiet neighbourhood returns to be the safe and peaceful place that it always has been, and that the residents can move on with their lives without having to live under the shadow of despair resulting from crime and drug supply.”
