Jonathan Greenhalgh has been appointed as head of commercial property at Barr Ellison Law as the firm continues to make moves in the growing regional market.

The Cambridge-based firm described the move as a “natural progression” for the team, with Kelly Peck, previously head of commercial property, focuses on her role as managing partner.

Kelly, named a ‘Leading Partner’ in the Legal 500, will continue to oversee the firm’s strategic direction and day-to-day leadership, while remaining a key member of the commercial property team and working closely with clients.

Kelly said: “Jonathan has a real depth of experience and understands our clients and the market extremely well. As the team grows, I wanted to ensure we found the right person to succeed my leadership, and Jonathan was the natural choice.

“I am still very much part of our commercial property team and will continue to work closely with our clients, while focusing more fully on my responsibilities as managing partner.”

Jonathan, who joined Barr Ellison in 2025, is also recognised as a ‘Leading Partner’ by the Legal 500, has extensive experience across a range of commercial property matters, including expertise in the acquisition and disposal of commercial, mixed-use and residential development sites.

He has helped the firm expand its property offer since joining and, in his new role, will lead a practice that advises major developers, landowners, promoters, investors, landlords and tenants, building on the team’s reputation for commercially-focused advice and practical support on complex transactions.

Barr Ellison said its clients involved in development projects will particularly benefit from the appointment, as it acts on both large and small-scale developments throughout the process, from acquisition and sale to planning agreements, joint venture agreements, overage arrangements and infrastructure issues.

The key to such projects, it said, is not only providing advice that is technically strong, but commercially-focused and with intelligent management of risk.

Jonathan said: “I am delighted to step into the role of head of commercial property at Barr Ellison Law. We have a fantastic team and a strong client base, and I look forward to continuing to build on the work already being done while supporting the projects and businesses driving growth across the region.”

Alongside Jonathan and Kelly, the team includes senior associate Lucy Harrison, named an ‘Emerging Talent’ by the Legal 500 and a key adviser to affordable housing providers and University of Cambridge college clients, and solicitor George Behiri, an experienced lawyer in residential development.

Barr Ellison Law, which has served businesses and individuals in Cambridge since 1874, is headline sponsor of the Cambridge Independent Business Awards, which take place in September.
