India marked a major milestone in indigenous defence manufacturing with the launch of its first homegrown 300-km Universal Rocket Launching System, “Suryastra”, in Maharashtra.
Unveiling the system at a defence manufacturing complex inaugurated in Shirdi on Saturday, defence minister Rajnath Singh termed it a “strategic game-changer” for future warfare. The facility has been developed by the NIBE Group, and the event was attended by Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis as well.
“India takes another giant leap in indigenous defence manufacturing with ‘Suryastra’, the country’s first locally built 300-km universal rocket launcher. A powerful symbol of self-reliance, precision strike capability and India’s rise as a global defence powerhouse,” BJP wrote in a post on X.

Alongside unveiling the Suryastra system, Rajnath Singh inaugurated the foundation for a missile complex linked to the ambitious defence initiative.
“Powered by indigenous technology, this rocket system will multiply our strike capability manifold and prove to be a strategic game-changer,” he said.
The newly inaugurated complex will focus on manufacturing advanced artillery systems, missile and space technologies, rocket systems, energetic materials, and autonomous defence platforms.
At the event, Singh emphasised that the outcome of future wars will be determined by the nation’s advancements and capabilities in munitions and automation, and not by the size of its forces.
“Glimpses of this reality can be witnessed in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and the West Asia situation. India demonstrated this capability during Operation Sindoor,” he said.
The Suryastra system has been developed as a long-range precision-strike rocket artillery platform capable of hitting targets up to 300 km away. Equipped with mobile launchers, battery command posts and loader vehicles, the system is designed to give the Indian Army deep-strike capability against high-value targets beyond the reach of existing Pinaka systems.
The platform was also showcased on Kartavyapath during the Republic Day Parade 2026.
